The Oxford Prep Griffins will head out on the road to face off against the Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Oxford Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
Last Friday, Oxford Prep was able to grind out a solid win over Eno River, taking the game 57-50.
Oxford Prep can attribute much of their success to Justin Thomas, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds, and AleYaun Heggie, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. Heggie has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 19 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Juntunen, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, sadly, Excelsior Classical Academy is still looking for their first win of the season after 19 games. They were beaten by Roxboro Community 84-38 on Tuesday.
Oxford Prep's win bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Excelsior Classical Academy, they dropped their record down to 0-19 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight at home.
Everything went Oxford Prep's way against Excelsior Classical Academy when the teams last played back in January as Oxford Prep made off with a 79-56 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oxford Prep since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
