Preview: Wendell Trojans vs. Richfield Tigers
Wendell has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Richfield Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Wendell had to suffer through a rough 52-24 loss at the hands of Raft River. While losing is never fun, Wendell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Raft River is ranked 23rd).
Richfield has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 23 points or more this season. They breezed by Hansen on the road to the tune of 46-14. With Richfield ahead 29-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Richfield's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Malia Kent, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, and Kasey Hendren, who scored 18 points along with seven steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Hendren has scored at least 25% of Richfield's points. Shelby Jones was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Wendell's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-9. As for Richfield, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Wendell came up short against Richfield in their previous meeting back in November, falling 36-28. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hendren, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten steals.
