League recap: Berea-Midpark climbs in state rankings

Berea-Midpark moved up to 351 from 414 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southwestern. Berea-Midpark was able to move up by besting Olmsted Falls 34-0.

Avon Lake added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Westlake, 35-3. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.

Steele's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Anthony Eliopoulos threw for 39 yards and Koran Brillon had 27 yards receiving. On the ground Chad Perkins chipped in 65 yards. Joe D'Andrea helped Steele's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 12 yards.

Perkins provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Comets fell to Brecksville-Broadview Heights. Perkins' key target this week was Brillon, who caught 2 passes for 27 yards.

Perkins was the best running back in the league this week. In 3 carries, he ran for 65 yards as Steele lost to the Bees. Justin Mott also contributed to the rushing game with 13 yards on the ground.

Steele's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Comets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Eliopoulos has thrown for 518 yards and 4 touchdowns this season, while D'Andrea has 28 catches for 283 yards.

The top two teams in Southwestern will face off this week when first place Brecksville-Broadview Heights takes on second place Avon Lake. Brecksville-Broadview Heights defeated Chad DiFranco's team last week, while Avon Lake beat the Demons.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Larry Laird's team takes on Jason Black's team. The Shoremen have allowed 73 points this season, while the Bees have given up 60. Avon Lake allowed 3 points last week as it defeated Westlake.

The Comets fell to Brecksville-Broadview Heights 48-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Perkins in the defeat.
