Baseball Recap: Zimmerman Takes a Loss

Zimmerman extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Chisago Lakes Area Wildcats. That's two games in a row now that the Thunder have lost by just one run.

Hank Olson spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits.

At the plate, Zimmerman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danny Hartigan, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that Hartigan has hit this season.

As for Chisago Lakes Area, their win bumped their record up to 2-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 10, 2024.

On Chisago Lakes Area's side, they also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and he was also dialed-in: Zander Bleymeyer gave up a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. Bleymeyer also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Wildcats are 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 0-3 otherwise.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Zimmerman will take on Cambridge-Isanti at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bluejackets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.63 runs per game on average), something the Thunder will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Chisago Lakes Area, they will venture away from home to challenge Cloquet at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
