Baseball Recap: Rio Comes Up Short

Rio had lost 18 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-16 to make it 19. They lost 9-2 to the Heritage Christian Patriots. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Vikings couldn't push the score so high this time.

Rio saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Shawback, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Shawback is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

As for Heritage Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.

On Heritage Christian's side, F. Siebert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Siebert was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Z. Stubbs was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was I. Dufek, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

As of now, neither Rio nor Heritage Christian have any future games scheduled.
