Baseball Recap: Vashon Island Falls to Cascade Christian in First Game of Season

Vashon Island unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cascade Christian Cougars on Friday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Charlie Walker was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Walker was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Walker wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jude Dardeau, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Jonas Maxfield was another, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Coming up, Vashon Island will square off against Cascade Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cascade Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against King's at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
