Basketball Recap: Kaden Matthews' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Smyrna over Lebanon

Smyrna was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 74-69 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lebanon Blue Devils. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (56), the Bulldogs still had to take the loss.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaden Matthews, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Tyreque Mccarver was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Even though they lost, Smyrna smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Smyrna now has a losing record at 11-12. As for Lebanon, they moved to 6-15 with that victory, which also ended their seven-game losing streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smyrna will face off against Knowledge Academies at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Smyrna's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last ten games. As for Lebanon, they will challenge Cookeville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lebanon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
