The La Villa Cardinals will face off against the Louise Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. La Villa knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Louise likes a good challenge.
Last Thursday, La Villa took their game with ease, bagging a 68-37 victory over Agua Dulce. The Cardinals pushed the score to 62-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Longhorns cut but never quite recovered from.
La Villa got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaiah Felix out in front who rushed for 104 yards and one TD on only nine carries. Frankie-Raye Gonzales was another key rusher, rushing for 69 yards and one score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: La Villa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 462 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, after only six points in their last contest, Louise made sure to put some points up on the board against Charlotte on Friday. The Hornets' defense stepped up to hand the Trojans a 57-0 shutout. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Hornets' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.
La Villa better keep an eye on Makendon Cash. He was instrumental in Louise's win, rushing for 134 yards. Cash was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 61 yards.
La Villa pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points over those games. As for Louise, their record is now 3-7.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. La Villa has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 289.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Louise struggles in that department as they've been averaging 150.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went La Villa's way against Louise in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as La Villa made off with a 42-20 victory. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
