Fort Zumwalt West faced Fort Zumwalt South in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Jaguars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Bulldogs. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Fort Zumwalt West had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-9.

Donel Sengele paced Fort Zumwalt West's offense, picking up 19 kills. Sengele got some help from Cody Hurt and his 33 assists.

Despite the loss, Fort Zumwalt South still got an impressive performance from Connor James, who had 13 digs and two assists.

Fort Zumwalt West has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-12 record this season. As for Fort Zumwalt South, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 19-6-1.

Fort Zumwalt West didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 victory against Liberty on the 6th. Fort Zumwalt South does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
