Preview: Thornton Wildcats vs. Crete-Monee Warriors
After three games on the road, Thornton is heading back home. They will take on the Crete-Monee Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Thornton is ranked highly in their home state, and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Lincoln. Thornton fell just short of Lincoln by a score of 61-59.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Morez Johnson Jr., who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 17 rebounds. Johnson Jr. is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Green, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine assists.
Meanwhile, Crete-Monee ended up a good deal behind Kankakee on Friday and lost 72-55. While losing is never fun, Crete-Monee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Kankakee is ranked 28th).
Thornton's loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 24-4. As for Crete-Monee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-15.
Thornton strolled past Crete-Monee when the teams last played back in January by a score of 52-37. Will Thornton repeat their success, or does Crete-Monee have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
