Soccer Game Preview: Bishop England vs. Wando

Bishop England hasn't had much luck against Wando recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Battling Bishops will face off against the Warriors at 7:45 p.m.

Bishop England is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: May River, who was ranked tenth at the time (Bishop England was ranked fifth). While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was the Sharks who were credited with the win on Friday. May River got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to Bishop England's two. Having soared to a lofty eight goals in the game before, Bishop England couldn't push the score so high this time.

Bishop England will be up against a hot Wando squad: the team just extended their winning streak to 14. Wando blew past Waccamaw 4-1 on Wednesday. Wando might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by three goals or more this season.

They hit Waccamaw with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Greyson Biggs, Brady Gotts, Mohamad Alahmad, and Aaron Gebreselassie.

Wando pushed their record up to 15-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those eight contests. As for Bishop England, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 9-3.

Bishop England couldn't quite get it done against Wando in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Battling Bishops avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
