Softball Recap: West Perry Mustangs vs. Mifflin County Huskies
West Perry extended their losing streak to 12 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-12-1 in the process. They came up short against the Mifflin County Huskies, falling 15-0. The Mustangs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Huskies from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
West Perry saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley Prowell, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. Olivia Bowen also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for Mifflin County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.
On Mifflin County's side, Macy Pietzch made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Pietzch was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Malaina Maxwell was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Falynn Reinard, who went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Looking ahead, West Perry will head out on the road to challenge Boiling Springs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bubblers have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Mifflin County, they will welcome State College at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
