Softball Recap: Saugus Has No Trouble Against Valencia

Saugus hadn't done well against Valencia recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Saugus put the hurt on Valencia with a sharp 13-0 victory. The match marked the Centurions' most dominant win of the season so far.

Taliya Mata tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bri Coe, who fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-3. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Jordan Shepherd was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.

Saugus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valencia only posted an OBP of .250.

Saugus is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Valencia's loss ended a 13-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-3.

Saugus didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-6 win against West Ranch on the 20th. As for Valencia, they have also already played their next match, an 11-0 victory against Castaic on the 20th.
