Baseball Game Preview: Sequoia Ravens vs. Half Moon Bay Cougars

The Sequoia Ravens will head out on the road to square off against the Half Moon Bay Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sequoia's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Half Moon Bay's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

While Sequoia's victory against Archbishop Riordan wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Sequoia narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Archbishop Riordan 4-2.

Sequoia saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Winfield, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Vince Olinger Giani also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Half Moon Bay's offense. They fell just short of University by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by exactly two runs.

Half Moon Bay's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-8. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sequoia, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Sequoia skirted past Half Moon Bay 8-7 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sequoia since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
