Baseball Game Preview: Barnwell Warhorses vs. Batesburg-Leesville Panthers

The Barnwell Warhorses are taking a road trip to take on the Batesburg-Leesville Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Barnwell sitting on 12 straight wins and Batesburg-Leesville on three.

Barnwell's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Bamberg-Ehrhardt.

The result came thanks to Trey Boleman's shutout, as he gave up just two hits.

At the plate, Case Davis was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Hayden Pierce was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Friday. Batesburg-Leesville was the clear victor by a 14-1 margin over Pelion. The result was nothing new for Batesburg-Leesville, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Preston Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Tanner Watkins, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Batesburg-Leesville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Batesburg-Leesville pushed their record up to 12-3-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Barnwell, their record now sits at 14-3.

Barnwell suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Batesburg-Leesville when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can the Warhorses avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
