Basketball Game Preview: SEED DC vs. Maya Angelou Public Charter

SEED DC will take on Maya Angelou Public Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (SEED DC has five straight victories, Maya Angelou Public Charter has 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

While SEED DC didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 76-26 win over Anacostia. SEED DC has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 30 points or more this season.

SEED DC relied on the efforts of Noah Mercer, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points and three steals, and Lorenzo McCallop, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. With that strong performance, Mercer is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Zeadon Myles, who posted six points and ten rebounds.

SEED DC smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Maya Angelou Public Charter played a tough match back in December of 2024 in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 77-13 loss at the hands of KIPP DC Legacy College Prep. Maya Angelou Public Charter was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-5.

SEED DC's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.5 points. As for Maya Angelou Public Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
