Basketball Game Preview: Friona Chieftans vs. Shallowater Mustangs

Friona is 0-9 against Shallowater since January of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Friona Chieftans will head out to challenge the Shallowater Mustangs at 12:15 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Friona will head into Saturday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 26) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Merkel 46-43.

Meanwhile, Shallowater came tearing into Saturday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged the Hawks out 68-66.

Shallowater is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for Friona, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10.

Friona was taken down by Shallowater 53-26 in their previous meeting back in January of 2018. Can Friona avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
