Jonathan Teter made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
Teter wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jd Marquez, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
The home team had won the previous six meetings between San Dieguito Academy and Mission Vista, and Mission Vista kept the tradition alive. The Mustangs fell 5-2 to Mission Vista on Thursday.
Nathan Calm was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.
Valley Center is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for San Dieguito Academy, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-11.
San Dieguito Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Valley Center has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for San Dieguito Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Valley Center keep running through batters, or will the Mustangs buck the trend?
Valley Center couldn't quite get it done against San Dieguito Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2019 as they fell 9-4. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
