Basketball Recap: Caleb Lapka's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Calvin Christian over Morse

Calvin Christian's tournament run continued when they took on Morse on Saturday. The Calvin Christian Crusaders fell to the Morse Tigers 64-60.

Calvin Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Caleb Lapka, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Lapka a new career-high in assists (seven). Another player making a difference was Sawyer Goggin, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Calvin Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Morse to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alex Rivera, who posted 12 points and three steals. Rivera is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Eldren Vergara was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Calvin Christian's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Morse, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvin Christian will challenge Escondido at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Calvin Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Morse, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Preuss UCSD at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
