Basketball Game Preview: Spring Creek Spartans vs. Hug Hawks

The Spring Creek Spartans will face off against the Hug Hawks at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Spring Creek is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Spring Creek might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 38-35 to Elko, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Meanwhile, Hug hadn't done well against Truckee recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Hug came out on top against Truckee by a score of 41-33. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawks.

Spring Creek better keep an eye on Cori Carrier. She was instrumental in Hug's win, almost dropping a triple-double on 23 points, 14 boards, and nine steals. The game was Carrier's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taliyah Henderson, who posted four points and nine steals.

Spring Creek's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-9. As for Hug, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Spring Creek against Hug in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, as the squad secured a 50-12 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spring Creek since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
