Basketball Recap: Southern Lehigh Comes Up Short

Southern Lehigh fought the good fight in their overtime match against Saucon Valley on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to the Saucon Valley Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 429th, while the Panthers are ranked 197th).

Saucon Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Adam Clark led the charge by as he made all 5 shots he took to post 12 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Grim, who made all 5 shots he took for 12 points.

Southern Lehigh dropped their record down to 6-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Saucon Valley, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 15-4.

Southern Lehigh will be playing in front of their home fans against Catasauqua at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Saucon Valley, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-47 win against Antietam on the 1st.
