Baseball Game Preview: Balboa Buccaneers vs. Mission Bears

For the second straight game, Balboa will face off against Mission. The Buccaneers will welcome the Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Balboa comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Mission hit Balboa with a five-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Buccaneers lost 12-3 to the Bears.

For Mission's part, Rowan Powell made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Powell has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Adrian Chiavarria was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had over his last nine matches. Another player making a difference was Diego Ramirez, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Balboa's defeat dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Mission, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-18.
