Basketball Recap: Churchill Triumphs

Churchill hasn't had much luck at home recently (they'd lost three straight) but thanks in part to Ty Read that streak is no more. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, the Churchill Lancers made off with a 62-61 victory over the Lake Oswego Lakers thanks in part to Read, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. He is becoming a predictor of Churchill's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 10-4 (and 1-4 when he doesn't).

Another player making a difference was Alonzo Reyes, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 10 points and six assists. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

Churchill's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Lake Oswego, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season.

Looking ahead, Churchill will venture away from home to take on North Eugene at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lake Oswego, they will welcome Tualatin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Tualatin will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Lake Oswego surely won't give up without a fight.
