Softball Recap: Creekside Knights vs. George Jenkins Eagles

It was a good run, but Creekside unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the George Jenkins Eagles by a score of 5-4. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest runs Creekside has scored all season.

Kaylee Martineau spent all seven innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Carly Dall was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Campbell, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double.

On George Jenkins' side, they got a great performance from Olivia Friel as she pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (she also didn't allow any walks).

At the plate, Mackenzie Mathers was incredible, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Jazlyn Duque was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Having lost for the first time this season, Creekside fell to 11-1. As for George Jenkins, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.

Creekside will head out on the road to challenge Fleming Island at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Creekside is looking to tack on another W to their nine-game streak on the road dating back to last season. As for George Jenkins, they will square off against Lake Placid at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The pair have allowed few runs on average, (George Jenkins: 3.3, Lake Placid: 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
