Soccer Game Preview: North Smithfield vs. Middletown

The North Smithfield Northmen will face off against the Middletown Islanders at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. North Smithfield's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for seven straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, North Smithfield turned things around against Ponaganset on Wednesday. Neither they nor the Chieftains could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw. The result (or lack thereof) was the first time North Smithfield have been dealt a draw since back in August.

Their goal came courtesy of Brynn Santos, who's now up to four this season.

Meanwhile, Middletown faced Prout in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Islanders played to a draw too, finishing 3-3 against the Crusaders. The result kept Middletown happy, as they haven't lost a game since September 10th.

Middletown's draw makes their record 9-2-2 this season. Meanwhile, North Smithfield's record is now 0-8-2.

North Smithfield suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Middletown when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Northmen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
