Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Zanesville). Everything went their way against the Madison Comprehensive Rams on Saturday as they made off with a 12-4 win. The Blue Devils not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 4, 2024 (when they won 16-2).

Logan Goldsmith and Mahki Murray made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Goldsmith pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Murray pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Zanesville is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5-1 otherwise. At bat, Goldsmith went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Murray got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs. Those two hits gave Goldsmith a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyson Kimble, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Canon Mercer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Zanesville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory got Zanesville back to even at 6-6-1. As for Madison Comprehensive, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Zanesville and Madison Comprehensive could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Blue Devils (ranked 327th) will meet Granville (ranked 36th) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Madison Comprehensive will take on West Holmes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (564 vs. 199).
