Basketball Recap: Illiana Christian Comes Up Short

If Illiana Christian was feeling good fresh off their 53-13 takedown of Calumet New Tech last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Illiana Christian Vikings were beaten by the Munster Mustangs 57-21 on Monday. The contest marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Abbie Ritzema was Illiana Christian's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Ella Olthof held things down on the boards with nine rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

Munster's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Igboamaka Odeluga, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 14 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. Odeluga is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nina Garner, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 19 points.

Illiana Christian now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Munster, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.

Illiana Christian will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Bowman Academy at 2:00 p.m. As for Munster, they will head out to square off against Thornton Fractional South at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
