Softball Preview: Sarcoxie Bears vs. Riverton Rams
The Sarcoxie Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Riverton Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sarcoxie will be strutting in after a victory while Riverton will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Monday, Sarcoxie needed a bit of extra time to put away Marionville. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Comets. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Sarcoxie as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Kylee Walters made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over eight innings pitched. Walters was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4.
Walters wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grace Osborne, who went 2-for-4 with a double.
Meanwhile, Riverton fell victim to Columbus and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 11-0 to the Titans. The loss continues a trend for Riverton in their matchups with Columbus: they've now lost four in a row.
Sarcoxie's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-14. As for Riverton, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.
Everything went Sarcoxie's way against Riverton in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 as Sarcoxie made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sarcoxie since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
