League recap: Elizabeth wins, gets boost in standings

Elizabeth was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in 3A Metro - East. The Cardinals vanquished Lewis-Palmer 34-27 earlier in the week.

Vista PEAK Prep's dynamic duo of Adam Puehler and Noah Butler proved tough for The Classical Academy to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Puehler threw for 231 yards and one touchdown and Butler had 104 yards receiving. DJ Ortiz helped Vista PEAK Prep's passing attack out by catching six balls for 89 yards.

Nate Alexander was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 109 yards as Fort Morgan fell to the Titans. Teammate Cody Davis added to the ground attack by rushing for 46 yards.

Vista PEAK Prep's Puehler and Ortiz have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Puehler has thrown for 533 yards this season, while Ortiz, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 20 catches for 255 yards. The Mustangs' Jared Bohm leads the league in rushing yards with 215.

Elizabeth led 3A Metro - East in scoring this week after putting up 34 points on the Rangers.
