Baseball Game Preview: California Grizzlies vs. Liberty Lions

The California Grizzlies will venture away from home to face off against the Liberty Lions at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

California's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Irvington with a sharp 18-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Grizzlies.

Tommy Casserly tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Nolan Jess was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Johnny Edwards was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

California always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvington only posted an OBP of .130.

Meanwhile, Liberty had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They had just enough and edged out Tokay 9-7. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

California came up short against Liberty in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 5-2. Can California avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
