Football Recap: Savannah Comes Up Short

If Savannah was riding high fresh off their 42-6 takedown of Maryville last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Savages and the St. Pius X Warriors were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but the Savages suffered a 21-20 loss. The game marked the Savages' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Savannah lost, don't look at Aiden Knechtenhofer. Despite the final result, he rushed for 136 yards and one score, and also threw for 85 yards and one touchdown.

Even if they lost, Savannah's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Braylon Ellis, Kaiden Phillips, and Kegan Bechtold, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Having lost for the first time this season, Savannah fell to 8-1. As for St. Pius X, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season.

As of now, neither Savannah nor St. Pius X have any future games scheduled.
