Baseball Recap: Green River Comes Up Short

Green River had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-9 to make it eight. They came up short against the Pinnacle Panthers, falling 9-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 back in August.

As for Pinnacle, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three games by nine runs or more so far this season.

For Pinnacle's part, Brody Howell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Howell also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pinnacle is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Howell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joey Howell, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Pinnacle: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Hayes, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.

Looking ahead, Green River will welcome Panguitch at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bobcats' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Pinnacle, they will head out on the road to square off against Wayne at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Badgers have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
