Softball Recap: Peoria Takes a Loss

Peoria extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They lost 18-0 to the Peoria Notre Dame Irish. The Lions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Irish from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Peoria Notre Dame, the win got them back to even at 9-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Peoria Notre Dame's part, Elizabeth Leustek looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Leustek has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lauren Leustek was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Ginglen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Peoria will welcome Stark County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Peoria Notre Dame, they will host Bloomington at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
