Softball Recap: Appalachian Sets Scoring Season-High Against Ragland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Appalachian). They put the hurt on the Ragland Purple Devils with a sharp 17-3 victory on Monday. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.

Charlie Payne and Graci McGuire did most of the damage at the plate: Payne got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while McGuire went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that Payne launched this season. Another player making a difference was Sophie Peek, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Appalachian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Appalachian and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Ragland, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Appalachian will have a chance to go back-to-back against Ragland: the pair will be back at it again later today.
