Preview: West Haven Blue Devils vs. Greenwich Cardinals

West Haven has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Greenwich Cardinals at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (West Haven: 17.5, Greenwich: 12.6) so any points scored will be well earned.

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only West Haven walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 28-14 victory over the Golden Hurricanes on Tuesday. Given West Haven's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked sixth, while New Britain is ranked 47th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Haven to victory, but perhaps none more so than Camren Kemp, who rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Kemp was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Armani Reid, who picked up 132 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Greenwich stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 47-21 margin over Stamford. Greenwich's win was all the more impressive since Stamford was averaging only 17 points allowed on the season.

Greenwich's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rocco Grillo, who threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Noah Park, who gained 120 total yards and three touchdowns.

Fairfield Prep's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while West Haven's defeat dropped theirs to 8-2.

West Haven beat Greenwich 35-22 in their previous meeting back in September of 2014. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Greenwich's Austin Longi, who rushed for 180 yards on only 15 carries, and also picked up 85 receiving yards. Now that he won't be playing on Sunday, will it be that much easier for West Haven to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
