The Kennewick Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Chiawana Riverhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kennewick has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight defeats, while Chiawana will come in with five straight victories.
Kennewick came up short against Richland on Friday, falling 14-2.
Kennewick saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mayce Davis, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Chiawana got the win against Kennewick on Tuesday by a conclusive 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Riverhawks, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Gabriella Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Chase Wirt was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avigail Rojas, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Chiawana kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in five consecutive games.
Chiawana's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Kennewick, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Kennewick hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Chiawana struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Kennewick might still be hurting after the 10-1 defeat they got from Chiawana in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
