Basketball Preview: Golden Valley Cougars vs. Central Valley Hawks

Golden Valley is 9-0 against the Hawks since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Golden Valley Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Central Valley Hawks at 7:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Even though Golden Valley has not done well against the Gauchos recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Golden Valley strolled past the Gauchos with points to spare, taking the game 57-40.

It was another big night for Braden Castleton, who scored 11 points.

Meanwhile, Central Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 64-56 to Buhach Colony.

Golden Valley pushed their record up to 18-8 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.1 points per game. As for Central Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-21 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Golden Valley against the Hawks in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 64-36 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Golden Valley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
