Basketball Recap: Preble Shawnee Takes a Loss

After flying high against Dayton Christian last Monday, Preble Shawnee came back down to earth. The Preble Shawnee Arrows received a blow on Thursday as they fell 55-36 to the Arcanum Trojans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Arrows of the 65-44 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Preble Shawnee still got an impressive performance from Aubrey Unger, who went 6 for 14 on her way to 15 points and five steals. Unger is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caylee Hatmaker, who posted two points in addition to four steals and four blocks.

Arcanum's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lexy Gibbons, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 17 points along with seven steals and five boards. Josie Schwartz was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven steals and five assists.

Preble Shawnee's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Arcanum, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Preble Shawnee didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-27 defeat against Randolph Southern on the 14th. As for Arcanum, they will host Bethel at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
