Preview: Dundalk Owls vs. Annapolis Panthers
The Dundalk Owls will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Annapolis Panthers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dundalk has four straight wins, Annapolis has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Dundalk put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Catonsville 47-7 at home. 47 seems to be a good number for Dundalk as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Dundalk had a senior duo take command as Cameron Myers rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns and Qaiyon Prioleau rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Myers was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Challenger Valentine was another key contributor, picking up 120 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Annapolis, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 33-14 loss to Arundel on Friday. Annapolis was down 26-0 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the defeat, Annapolis got a solid performance out of Tyler Womack, who gained 89 total yards and a touchdown.
Dundalk's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 38.67 points. As for Annapolis, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Dundalk has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 158.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Annapolis struggles in that department as they've been even better at 210.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Dundalk was able to grind out a solid victory over Annapolis in their previous matchup back in September of 2018, winning 15-6. Does Dundalk have another victory up their sleeve, or will Annapolis turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
