League recap: Covington propelled into state Top 25 after victory

Covington was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Slidell 17-7. The Lions came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 30 last week.

St. Paul was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in 5A District 6. Earlier in the week, the Wolves triumphed over Mandeville 17-10.

St. Paul's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Colin D'Angelo threw for 35 and one touchdown and Ryan Malone had 24 yards receiving. On the ground Derek Drago chipped in 46 yards. Drago helped St. Paul's passing attack out by catching two balls for 11 yards.

The Skippers' Glen Cuiellette and Zach Boudreaux have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Cuiellette has thrown for 574 yards this season, while Boudreaux has 14 catches for 220 yards. Marcus Gaines from Ken Sears Jr's team leads the league in rushing with 288 yards.
