Basketball Recap: Corner Canyon Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Mountain Ridge

On Tuesday, Corner Canyon faced Mountain Ridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Corner Canyon Chargers were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to the Mountain Ridge Sentinels. Even though they lost, the Chargers' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.3 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

When it comes to explaining why Corner Canyon lost, don't look at Aubrey Mulitalo. Despite the final result, she went 7 for 14 on her way to 17 points and four steals. That's the most steals Mulitalo has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate LeRoy, who posted ten points.

Jessica Maynard was her usual excellent self, going 8 of 9 en route to 21 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals for Mountain Ridge. With that strong performance, Maynard is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Kya Newton, who went 5 for 7 on her way to 14 points and five boards.

Corner Canyon is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9. As for Mountain Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Corner Canyon will challenge Herriman at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Corner Canyon is facing Herriman at the right time seeing as Herriman is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Mountain Ridge, they will take on Riverton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
