Baseball Game Preview: Willits Wolverines vs. Sonoma Academy Coyotes

Willits is 0-4 against Sonoma Academy since March of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Wolverines will head out to face off against the Coyotes at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Willits came out on top against Tomales on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Wolverines walked away with a 6-1 win over the Braves. The victory continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Braves: they've now won three in a row.

Corey Rockey made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rockey was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Willits let Jayden Schlegel and Jakoby Kirby run wild. Schlegel got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Kirby went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ivan Estrada, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Sonoma Academy made easy work of Credo on Wednesday and carried off a 13-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Coyotes, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Willits' victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-5. As for Sonoma Academy, their record now sits at 9-1.

Willits suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Sonoma Academy when the teams last played back in March. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
