Softball Recap: Gila Ridge Starts Season with Win Against Lake Havasu

Gila Ridge had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Lake Havasu Knights with a sharp 13-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won five in a row.

Malina Peterson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Gila Ridge got a massive performance out of Isabella Beltran, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. Those three runs gave Beltran a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Waymire, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Coming up, Gila Ridge will challenge Valley Vista at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Lake Havasu, they will take on San Luis at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Lake Havasu is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak dating back to last season.
