Softball Recap: Southwestern Wildcats vs. Platteville Hillmen

Southwestern had lost six straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 4-12 to make it seven. They lost 6-0 to the Platteville Hillmen. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hillmen apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Southwestern saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brynlee Droessler, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base. Hailey Brant also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for Platteville, they moved to 7-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 13-6).

On Platteville's side, Kennedy Shea was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Shea has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Mikala Schnering was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwestern will challenge Darlington at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Platteville, they will face off against River Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
