Softball Recap: Monroe Catholic Wins High-Profile Matchup Against North Pole

Monroe Catholic faced North Pole in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Rams walked away with an 11-7 win over the Patriots. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 7-4 win on Tuesday.

Anya Chernich made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Monroe Catholic let Jaliya Rojas and Angie Gonzalez run wild. Rojas went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Gonzalez has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Emma Born, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Monroe Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in six consecutive matchups.

Monroe Catholic's record now sits at 8-5. As for North Pole, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 15 of their last 20 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-20 record this season.

Monroe Catholic will venture away from home to challenge Delta at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams will need to watch out since the Huskies have now posted at least ten runs in their last five games. North Pole does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
