Avellana Vigil-Villalobos leads a balanced attack to beat Las Cruces

Recap: Centennial Hawks vs. Las Cruces Bulldawgs

The Centennial Hawks won the last time they faced the Las Cruces Bulldawgs, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Centennial snuck past Las Cruces with a 49-45 victory.

Centennial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avellana Vigil-Villalobos led the charge by scoring 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vigil-Villalobos has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Audi Torrez, who scored eight points along with six assists.

Las Cruces' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaliyah Morales, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Bethzy Quinones, who scored seven points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Centennial now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Las Cruces, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Centennial will take on Alamogordo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New Mexico (Alamogordo is ranked 38th, while Centennial is ranked 29th). As for Las Cruces, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Mayfield at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Mayfield is coming into the game with seven straight defeats on the road, meaning Las Cruces will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory.
