Preview: Wharton Tigers vs. Bellville Brahmas
Wharton is 1-7 against Bellville since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wharton Tigers will be playing at home against the Bellville Brahmas at 7:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Wharton: they have been struggling with eight straight losses at home, while Bellville has snatched up eight consecutive wins on the road.
Last Friday, Wharton was beaten by Sealy 66-7. Wharton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.
Wharton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jacarious Wiley, who rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and Jk Baldridge who rushed for 70 yards on only nine carries. Wiley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards.
Meanwhile, Bellville can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent match two weeks ago. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sealy 69-0 at home. Given Bellville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Sealy is ranked 579th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bellville relied on the efforts of Sam Hranicky, who rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and DD Murray, who rushed for 167 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries. Hunter Kunkel also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Sealy's victory bumped their season record to 3-5 while Wharton's defeat dropped theirs to 1-8.
Wharton took a serious blow against Bellville in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 60-14. Will Wharton have more luck at home instead of on the road?
