Basketball Recap: Thomas Stone Takes a Loss

On Monday, the Thomas Stone Cougars had to suffer through a 87-51 loss at the hands of the Wilde Lake Wildecats. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Wildecats are ranked 107th).

Leading Wilde Lake to victory were Dre Hoskins and Devin Wingfield. Hoskins dropped a double-double on 18 points and 19 boards, while Wingfield went 10 for 13 on his way to 22 points and seven assists. Wingfield's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Noah Brazil was another key player, going 6 of 15 en route to 15 points and three steals.

Thomas Stone has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Wilde Lake, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.

Thomas Stone wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 68-56 defeat against Huntingtown on the 15th. As for Wilde Lake, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-62 loss against Mt. Hebron on the 15th.
