Recap: Roosevelt Teddies vs. Robbinsdale Armstrong Falcons
The Roosevelt Teddies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight defeat. They suffered a rough 83-59 defeat at the hands of Robbinsdale Armstrong. While losing is never fun, Roosevelt can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Robbinsdale Armstrong is ranked 56th).
Roosevelt's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Avery Wells, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds, and Calvin Peterson who scored 18 points along with two steals. Wells is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Obie Esparza, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Roosevelt has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Robbinsdale Armstrong, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roosevelt's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Washburn at 7:00 p.m. on February 12th. Hopefully Roosevelt focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Friday. As for Robbinsdale Armstrong, they will be playing at home against Elk River at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Robbinsdale Armstrong's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 games.
