Football Game Preview: Cardinal Newman Crusaders vs. Goleman Gators

The Cardinal Newman Crusaders are taking a road trip to face off against the Goleman Gators at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Cardinal Newman's offense might be in the hot seat on Thursday considering what happened against Jesuit last Friday. They took a blow against the Tigers, falling 31-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Crusaders were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Goleman entered their tilt with Cypress Bay on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They breezed past the Lightning to the tune of 35-3. 35 seems to be a good number for the Gators as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Cardinal Newman better keep an eye on Timothy Potts. He was instrumental in Goleman's win, throwing for 282 yards and three TDs while picking up 13.4 yards per attempt. Potts has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. A healthy portion of Potts' aerial production (82 yards to be exact) went to Adrian Atoa.

Goleman's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Cardinal Newman, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Cardinal Newman strolled past Goleman when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a score of 21-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
